In what was the final game of non-league play for the Illini West varsity volleyball team, they took on Pittsfield at home on Monday, September 9th. The Chargers came away with a largely dominant 2-set win, taking game one 25-11 and game two 25-15.
On the night, the Chargers did a superb job of spreading the offense around. The leaders in kills were Ava Bliss and Hallie Ray who each had 4, while Megan Harrell and Paige Gutting added 3 each. Passing-wise, it was not quite as loud as the 34-assist, tournament-winning performance from the weekend for setter Karli Artman, but still a quality night as she racked up 11 assists. Defensively, Taylor Pence led the way with 13 digs while Ava Bliss added to her 4-kill night with 7. Maria DeSotel added 6 of her own as the Chargers continue to excel on the defensive side of the ball.
The win pushes Illini West’s record to 11-3 as they could not have asked for a better non-league portion of the season. The Chargers open league play Thursday night as they head to Havana for a 7 PM match.
