The Summit League does not appear to be too high on WIU’s upcoming 2019 women’s soccer season, as the Leathernecks were picked 9th heading into the season. This should be all the motivation WIU needs to prove this doubt wrong and surprise the league.
Defending champions and perennial powers Denver were picked to win once again, receiving 63 total points in the poll which included 5 first place votes. The Pioneers seem to have their foot firmly on the gas pedal heading into preseason play, as they were picked a full 6 points ahead of second place South Dakota State.
The remainder of the preseason rankings followed like this (in order): North Dakota State, Omaha, South Dakota, North Dakota, Oral Roberts, Purdue Fort Wayne with WIU rounding out the list.
